Abbey Road was released 55 years ago today, on September 26, 1969. Over half a century later, the album remains an iconic piece of musical history.
From ‘Come Together’ to ‘Here Comes the Sun’, the tracks on Abbey Road are beloved, and evoke the sound of 1969. These songs are nostalgic, representing the Beatles’ last project before the group disbanded, since Abbey Road was the last album the four ever recorded together.
The iconic cover art depicting the Fab Four striding across the zebra crossing is universally recognisable – although it reportedly only took 30 minutes to get the shot. In fact, the Abbey Road album cover is cemented in the public imagination, so much so that Abbey Road remains a pilgrimage site for dedicated fans.
