Valentine's Day 1843 was a pretty special occasion if you happened to be in Rochdale. If you bought a ticket to Pablo Fanque's Circus Royal then, courtesy of Messrs Kite & Henderson, you would have been assured that the evening's entertainment would "be one of the most splendid ever produced in this town, having been some days in preparation."
