Harry Houdini was a legendary magician and escape artist, renowned for his sensational escape acts involving handcuffs, straitjackets, and locked containers. Born in 1874 as Erik Weisz, he became a global icon for his daring performances and tireless efforts to debunk fraudulent spiritualists.
On Monday 21 March 1898 he performed with his wife Wilhelmina Beatrice "Bess" Rahner at Smith's Opera House. Bess Houdini assisted Harry Houdini in various ways, including acting as his stage partner and helping with the setup and execution of his illusions and escape acts. She often played a role in distracting the audience or passing him hidden tools and keys. Additionally, Bess was involved in performing their joint routine, "The Metamorphosis," where they would switch places in a locked trunk within seconds, showcasing their seamless teamwork and adding an element of surprise to their performances.
